  5. Ribosomal protein S15 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit.
  6. In Escherichia  coli, this protein binds to 16S ribosomal RNA and functions at
  7. early steps in ribosome assembly. It belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins
  8. which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2], groups:

  10.  - Eubacterial S15.
  11.  - Archaebacterial Halobacterium marismortui HmaS15 (HS11).
  12.  - Plant chloroplast S15.
  13.  - Yeast mitochondrial S28.
  14.  - Mammalian S13.
  15.  - Brugia pahangi and Wuchereria bancrofti S13 (S15).
  16.  - Yeast S13 (YS15).

  18. S15 is a protein of 80 to 250 amino-acid residues.  As a signature pattern, we
  19. selected a conserved region located in the C-terminal part of these proteins.
